Supervision might be the only relationship you have where you can say anything about anything and you don’t need to worry about how they will feel about that or who they will tell.
What is professional supervision?
While there is no single or agreed definition of supervision, at its core, supervision is a process of professional learning and development that enables individuals to reflect on and develop their knowledge, skills, and competence, through agreed and regular support with another professional.
It is focused on developing personal skills, understanding abilities and ethical requirements of practice in their profession.
What can I expect from professional supervision?
Professional supervision involves regularly scheduled meetings with a trained supervisor. The supervisor is someone who has developed their own professional skills so they can guide others. Supervision sessions happen at scheduled intervals. For instance every month, or every two or three months, or more.
Professional supervision is specific to an individual’s learning needs, for example, it may involve discussing;
· Client scenarios
· Current workloads and resources
· Professional development opportunities and goal setting.
· Managing relationships with colleagues.
· Debriefing situations
